Water Up with a BIBO Water Filter


It’s well known that bottled water is a demon (or favorite punching bag) of the green community. Plastic is filling up our environment and even taking over huge patches of the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. Additionally, shipping bottled water all across the world is, to say the least, a bit absurd. Unfortunately, while the water coming out of the tap in many places may be fine for drinking, in some places, you’re really better off with cleaner water.

There are different options for ensuring that you’re drinking clean water. One of the most obvious is a water filter and dispenser in your home. BIBO is one such company now offering a water dispenser for home, and its dispenser will heat or cool your water while it’s at it.

I think I first ran across BIBO last year when someone shared a “10 Bottled Water Facts” info graphic (created by the company). The company is only a year old — it was founded in 2011 and started offering its home water dispensers in June 2011 —  and is just a 4-person team right now.

The formation of the company and BIBO’s products seems to have come out of a desire to help the environment. Founder Jonathan Brown was actually a bottled water pioneer in the UK in the late 80s. After some years in that field, however, he realized the environmental damage being done by the industry. So, he went on to develop filtered mains water dispensers for the workplace by forming Connect Water Systems. Reportedly, Connect has helped 200,000 companies move away from bottled water. In 2011, Brown (and a few others) expanded into the home sector with BIBO.




BIBO’s website states: “Bottled water is becoming harder to justify. Not only is it environmentally unsound to ship water hundreds, or thousands, of miles. It’s also well known that polycarbonate bottles can leach chemicals into the water they carry.” Very true.

Water scarcity: reality or speech

Approximately 505.000 Km3 evaporates each year of the oceans and seas (this is equivalent to a layer 1.4 metres thick on the surface of seas and oceans). Although these sources of water salt, salt is not transmitted in evaporation. Of these 505.000 Km3 80% returns to precipitate on the oceans and seas, but the remaining 20% drop over the continental surface. And the rains that fall on all continents, about 3/4 parts evaporate from lakes, ponds, rivers, soil and plants (evapotranspiration). It is 1/4 remaining drain to the sea again.


This cycle and these levels remain valid according to evidence from the last ice age. In other words, the amount of water available has not changed significant since at least 12,000 to 18,000 years ago.

Moreover, the amount of water available not only not declined but may even be increasing as a result of the melting of the polar ice caps and glaciers due to global warming. Although it sounds like a paradoja…

The question then seems to be that drinking water is not scarce at the global level. And however, according to UN reports nearly 3 billion people have no access to it. That leaves us thinking that the question to ask is not "does there is enough water for all?", but "who controls her?, and what uses it?".

Audi Testing Water in Electric Car Production

Audi Electric Car The entrepreneurial Audi is planning to take advantage of changes portended in the automobile market with an eye towards emission-free vehicles. Rival manufactures like BMW with Megacity electric vehicle and Daimler with Smart ED have already taken the leap with cute little electric cars on their way to produce vehicles with zero carbon emission. Now Audi is joining the arena and the world is keenly interested to see what kind of a car will be Audi’s gift to the automobile world.

Supermini:
A supermini is reportedly the car on the anvil as per a report by What Car? Audi CEO, Rupert Stadler says,”…so we are planning for a changing market when customers will be ready.” Audi is already busy on the electric sports car planned with a limited number release by 2012, to be marketed under the E-tron name.

Audi Zero?
The plan is on for a mass-market electric car – supermini – is very much ongoing as confirmed by CEO Stadler in Munich at the launch of Audi 7 Sportback. Audi’s electric car can either be something similar to A1 e-tron Concept or a smaller platform named ‘Audi Zero’. Audi will not do any spin-off versions like Skoda or Seat had done.

Future plans:
Audi is working on the basis that in about 3-5 years time, market will be ready for such electric cars and that will be the time when these cars will also be viable. In Stadler’s words, “What we then need are customers willing to pay a premium these vehicles demand… We are a technical company planning technical solutions, but we are also entrepreneurial, so we are planning for a changing market… in 10 years time I see a point where we have clean energy too. Then the situation will be perfect.”

Following the posts related to pollution in Spain, I decided to comment on the contamination of water in Spain. I take also to remind, that in previous posts we've talked about light in Spain pollution, noise pollution in Spain and air pollution in Spain.
